We are committed to producing an eco-friendlier sticker made of non-vinyl outdoor material that holds up pretty much as well as the dreaded vinyl (see "Why Non-Vinyl" below) but has a much more eco-friendly environmental footprint. Despite many loudmouth sticker ideas that go back several elections, we have waited until we could produce a good-quality sticker that does not employ vinyl — and that time has finally come!

Why Non-Vinyl?

Well, read this article about how much worse vinyl or polyvinyl chloride or PVC really is and even other plastics compare relatively favorably. Click on this Green Peace article to read all about it . When the time comes that we can produce stickers from a bio-plastic, we'll be there first!

Please keep in mind that vinyl is much, much less expensive than our non-vinyl materials and we'll do our best to try to stay competitive with vinyl stickers. And don't forget the huge hidden cost to ourselves and future generations of not making good choices today. And yet, our prices on our own stickers are actually lower than most other sites that use vinyl especially in smaller quantities.

Okay, BIG NEWS. I've decided to give away our FREE "WE ARE THE 99%" bumper sticker*!!!

Free is the right price for this sticker — lots of folks are out there on the streets and in the parks doing their part and it's not like they're making money occupying places.

Also, I think it's important for their to be an alternative to those nasty vinyl stickers with our eco-friendlier non-vinyl sticker. People need to know that it's possible to take a stand against the 99% of vinyl crap that's out there. These may not be the perfect plastic but they are much better than vinyl and I think it's consistent with the message — let's do things right and take care of each other and take care of the planet.

Finally this operation is working more or less kinda like I imagined. I see/hear something going on in our world; my little brain boils it down to a bumper sticker; in a timely fashion I finesse and design the sticker; I am able to put it up on the web all in reasonable short order.

To be hearing the question of whether or not Mormonism is a cult gets me thinking... "They're all cults!" Voila, a sticker is conceived and birthed with very little indigestation.

I can't take credit for the "WE ARE THE 99%" movement but I can take credit for coming up with a WE ARE THE 99% BUMPER STICKER within the first month of its existence (WE ARE THE 99 PERCENT BUMPER STICKER, if you're listening Professor Google). I can't tell you how many entire election cycles I watched cycle by me while I could not react quickly enough while thinking, "I'll get you with a clever bumper sticker next time, George Herbert Walker Bush!"

It kinda breaks my heart to see all the 99% bumper stickers out there that are likely all toxic vinyl — here we/they are speaking up against corporate greed but it's also the corporate wrecklessness and criminal disregard for the personal and planetary health that's at stake here. I have partnered up with a really creative cat from out LA way who has a snappy succinct style with his bumper artistry. I think we can both react quickly enough to the political nonsense to keep our stickers fresh and bouncy this time around. We've even got an ELECTION 2012 department now. I got a really interesting call from a really interesting woman the other day. She was super excited (really) about a sticker idea that she had and, when I heard it, I immediately loved it. And yet, we weren’t even quite sure what we had. The idea kept unfolding like a, well, mysterious unfolding thing (thank you, Blackadder). She, Carlin Camp, has a luxury (and eco) goods shop in Charlottesville, VA called CandACamp (www.CandACamp.com) and a quote from her homepage only adds to the intrigue: “…where you will find Mexican candy wrappers, organic nail polish and antler bottle openers… ***

She came up with the phrase (now copyright protected) “Got Real”. Now, did that phrase have a question mark like its mustachioed milky cousin does? Or was it a statement as in, “I got real. Really real.” That’s the beauty of it — it’s really both. She’ll be using a smaller sticker version with “Got Real.” as a giveaway to her customers because they “got real” (real goods and likely a real experience) at her shop. The “Got Real?” is a more provocative and open-ended phrase and she’s selling those at her shop (and via EcoBumperStickers.com).

She’s planning on taking proceeds from sticker sales to make a “real” difference in her community by donating them to Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (www.CACFonline.org) as well as to help finance future scouting/buying expeditions to Timbuktu and beyond.

The beauty of the “Got Real?” and even the “Got Real.” stickers is that they are an invitation to “get real” with anyone who comments on it. It’s like a doorway into possibility — are you willing to take that step?
